Michelangelo Antonioni: Zabriskie Point (1970) Music Till Death Do Us Part

A road movie with a surprising amount in common with Easy Rider.  more

Current events

Did Dennis Hopper’s film really influence the outstanding European director Michelangelo Antonioni? Who knows? Prep for a film often begins years before shooting starts and Antonioni had already visited the United States in 1967. (Subsequent events are clearer: The female lead Daria Halprin later shacked up with the director of Easy Rider, they lived together for several years.) Although the film’s musical patchwork is strongly influenced by Pink Floyd, there’s also a touch of country, and Jerry Garcia on guitar. The perspective of the director is particularly fascinating: Death Valley, as viewed from Europe. Reviews were mixed, as critics primarily focused on the plot. This is not necessarily the way to go, though, when it comes to a director who adds something new to the language of film in each of his releases. And this film is a case in point.

In the original language, with Hungarian subtitles.
