THE COMPANY OF THE BUDAPEST OPERETTA & MUSICAL THEATRE PRESENTS A COOPERATION WITH THE ZIKKURAT THEATRE AGENCY
Stephen, the King is the story of a family feud. After the death of Géza, his son Stephen is the heir to his power. But Stephen’s uncle Koppány recalls old tradition and stakes his own claim, gathering his own supporters. Stephen can strengthen his position with help from abroad, but the bloody conflict is inevitable. What weapons shall we use to achieve victory? What principles shall we sacrifice for our political goals? Is power all that matters? Generations of Hungarians know the melodies of Szörényi Levente and the lyrics of Bródy János by heart. The upcoming production removes the focus from the historical backdrop and takes a new look at the timeless human aspects of the story, looking for a new understanding of a well-known story.
The author’s rights are held and vouchsafed by the Zikkurat Theatre Agency and the Melody Ltd.
